Our client's division supports the work of the department through the delivery of corporate and business functions spanning finance, human resources, IT, procurement, legal, communications, property management and grants management.

Together, teams in the Division provide expertise to lead and shape policy development, business improvement and program delivery to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of corporate outcomes for the Department.

The team is responsible for policies, strategies and projects designed to protect and maintain the health and wellbeing of department employees. The team deliver WHS strategy and advice to manage operational hazards, including psychosocial hazards, across the department. The team also support the department to achieve compliance with health and safety related legislation, policies, and guidance established by regulatory bodies, and the department's WHS and psychosocial programs align with the Whole of Government reforms.

Job Description

ensure compliance with departmental policies and procedures and relevant Commonwealth legislation across all WHS and wellbeing activitiesproactively contribute to the development, implementation and review of work, health and safety management system framework documentation to ensure legislative, regulatory and departmental complianceprovide advice and support on best practice WHS and wellbeing to build capability in the workforce and enable sustained and continual improvement in workplace safety, health and wellbeingreview incident investigation and risk management activities, provide accurate specialist advice on corrective actions and/or control measure effectiveness monitor and analyse WHS data to identify trends, emerging issues, propose and facilitate improvement opportunities, and report on WHS performance lead the development and implementation of employee assistance, mental health and early intervention programs proactively contribute to the development of new wellbeing initiatives to support employee wellbeing including physical and psychosocial initiatives develop and maintain strong internal and external relationships and professionally represent the DepartmentThe Successful Applicant

There are three separate roles within the team that are vacant: Operational WHS activities, inbox management, risk assessments, technical advice, WHS Management Plan update and application, WHS committee secretariat functions (APS5 team member as a direct report)Wellbeing program implementation involving a diverse range of topics, subjects or activities with a focus on mental health (compliance with the new psychosocial risk management regulations)Governance activities involving implementation of Child Safe Policy, alignment to the APSC mental health framework, assurance activities (audit), WHS strategic planning and implementation activities. Areas of knowledge, skill and ability for this position are:an understanding of workplace health and safety and wellbeing policies, practices and legislation be able to provide accurate and relevant advice in relation to safety and wellbeing matters an ability to respond in a positive and flexible manner to change and uncertainty, demonstrating an openness to new information and viewpoints effective problem solving and critical thinking skills to exercise sound judgement in consideration of immediate and long term issues well-developed written and oral communication skills, including the ability to negotiate with, and influence, key stakeholders the ability to demonstrate professionalism, impartially, and integrity in dealing with others and managing sensitive information well-developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to provide support, influence and negotiate at all levels.What's On Offer

Candidates must be Australian Citizen, with baseline security clearance. Certificate level qualification in WHS or equivalent qualification and governent experience is highly desirable.
